Welcome! Hello! Hey there!
If you're reading this that means you're taking the time to get to know me a little better. Maybe you're curious about what the heck it is I'm all about! First, I'd like to address something important, this is not what I wear on a daily basis. (Normally you will find me in leggings and a t-shirt. I'm a mother of 5 kids, one dog, and a husband of over 25 years.)
You may be asking yourself, "Why should I be interested in what she has to say?" And that's a very good question! I got very interested in nutrition about 5 years ago when some health issues arose with one of my daughters. I felt very overwhelmed and confused. I did a ton of research on my own and felt like everyone had different opinions. I stumbled across the Institute for Integrative Nutrition (IIN) and it sounded like a perfect fit for me. I was looking to make a change professionally, and I wanted to be a help to people who may have felt as confused as I did. I thought that by the time I finished my certification I'd have all the answers, but that's not what happened.
Every week we were taught different dietary theories and again each one contradicted the other in some way! And then I realized, that was the point all along. You see, the founder of the school coined a term called "bio-individuality", meaning we are all unique and what works for me probably won't work for you and what worked for us last year or month may not work today. Our bodies are constantly changing as well as what our bodies need. Sleep, stress, exercise, etc. are some of the things that are tend to fluctuate and our bodies needs will change based on these fluctuations. We've been so inundated with diet culture that we've lost our ability to hear the cues our bodies give us. We've been lied to, shamed, and manipulated by this multi-billion dollar industry and we are no better for it. Type 2 diabetes for instance continues to rise among adults and children according to the CDC. So what is the answer? I've spent the last year getting my certification through the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and coaching clients one on one and what I've learned is this.
Health is so much more than just what you eat. Stress management, physical activity, career, relationships, spirituality, creativity, home environment, and sleep, for example are just as, if not more important than what you eat.
I'm so excited about this blog because in it I will talk about ALL the things. Anyone who knows me, knows I keep things real. I love to laugh and tell funny stories and I'm also deeply sensitive and will find myself wanting to retreat or go fight a war. Sometimes I get so passionate about a thing it's ALL I will talk about and think about.
